Late march, so little color yet. A couple of azaleas are just starting to bloom, and the laceleaf maple over the stream has a hint of red. On another post I'll show the before photo of this pool. Very different. Dig the happy frog. jc
I love the berries of the mahonia. There are also a few remaining leaves with fall coloring. A great specimen plant, as long as you aren't likely to brush against it. In that regard, it might make a good hedgerow. jc
This house is about fifteen feet above the one on the adjoining lot. I thought the structure and windows on the house below (the entrance and atrium) were a nice, traditional arrangement, so I decided to use them as part of the composition. Sort of a path leading to a distant temple. The gravel leads from the driveway to the left. jc
Here is yet another circle. The waterfall at the left is one of my most elegant I think. I'll post a photo of it later. This may be the first time I got to control the whole composition. I wasn't just adding to an existing space. The people who own this home stayed at PBV for years, and wanted me to create that quality in their yard. The gravel in the foreground comes right off their driveway. That is another thing I do quite often. I use the gravel drive as part of the composition; exemplifying, as it does, water. jc
These old railroad tie retaining walls were here. I thought they had a lot of character so I incorporated them into the gardens. The fountain water runs into the pool under the beach stones and recirculates. jc
These are the cottages on the way to P-town. The middle reproduction is a bit dull. The colors in each image match. These are the last paintings I've had a chance to do. I know what my next one will be if I ever get a chance to make it. Maybe I'll post some older paintings later. jc
This work, like much of what I post here, is at the Pleasant Bay Village Motel in Chatham. I needed to make steps up this bank. I was going to make stone steps right up the face, but it would have been too steep, so I made ruins/remnants of steps from stone and made landscape tie steps that back track up to the left. (out of the photo)
A lovely cold, raw, late winter day on Cape Cod. This is the Cape at its least pleasant. The greens will begin to appear in the April photos, and by May the changes come quickly. The stone rectangles above the wall are the vegetable and herb gardens. jc
