This is what I was talking about in the last post. This section of planting is 90% dead. The Crispii is girdled. A full six inches at the base of the trunk is eaten. The cotoneaster (the brown-but-supposed-to-be-green groundcover) is also largely girdled, and the big grass (a couple of tufts) was eaten at the ground. aargh. Voles must die. Or at least go away to be eaten by raptors and foxes. jc
Perhaps if the coyotes had been less threatening they could be useful now. Hope the sonic deterrent is effective. Are there any plants that voles find repulsive, i.e. like marigolds are to some insects? Anyone else out there have suggestions?
ReplyDeleteRight about the coyotes. Also foxes, hawks, owls, and surprisingly, skunks! They had a big die off two years ago and have not yet recovered. Here's pulling for a big skunk crop.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...a bumper crop of skunks to help control the voles. While probably the most likely of the choices to recover, I'd prefer owls. Whoo? Right.
