Filigree Lace
This is a red filigree laceleaf Japanese maple at PBV. It's about six feet tall. This is quite an old tree. I built this garden about 15 years ago, and the tree was already mature. Because the leaves are so fine it grows very slowly. It looks fairly standard in the photo but the leaves are truly about as delicate as lace. I've pruned it to give it some shape. Behind it is a piece of rose quartz with mica. It doesn't look too pink between the azalea and the maple, but it is quite striking when the sun reflects off the mica cap. It is directly in front of you when you turn into the entrance. Makes a nice opening statement I think. jc

Gorgeous! When you click on the photo and enlarge it, the detail of the leaves becomes evident. The tree looks like velvet!! A truly sumptuous impression for someone turning into PBV.
