Three falls

This feature was created at a private home n Charleston S.C. It hides the view from the street into the living room through a long picture window. This is the view from inside looking out. The waterfalls glow a bit in the late afternoon light as they are lit by small spotlights. This is the work just finished and planted. I will display images later with more mature plant material. jc

Naturalized falls

A waterfall can naturalize pretty quickly if given the appropriate plant material. This little grotto is only two years old. jc

a cold rainy day in January

This is a photo from a warm sunny day in July, but I thought I should write something so I get in the habit. When the pond is part of a patio, I like to have the stone work run up to the edge of the pond, with plant materials defining and softening the edge. This pond leads to another water feature (to the right as you look at the photo) that spills over into a lower patio with a hot tub . The owner wanted only white flowers in all her gardens. Not my favorite thing, but it looks nice here. This is the first season of growth. jc

January 1 journal photos

A bright, cold day. Nice winter storm New Year's Eve. A good way to start the photo series. You can see little more than the bones of the gardens. Beyond the fence is Pleasant Bay. The shape of the walls and the patterns on the ground are drawn from the movement of the water; a tidal current with eddies, and the overlapping waves on the shore. You can see that a bit in the photo of the front of the house. The curves are low stone walls. The patterns will become more apparent in time. (The straight wall was pre-existing.)
