New year, new work

Winter now, so I can get on to some sculpture. This is how a ribbon sculpture grows. I cut the sheet into one long strip and heat and bend it. Day one with a clean sheet of mild steel; day three as the piece emerges. jc

  1. Great to see these again. Really like this style. Do you find it a stream of consciousness that emerges as you go or do you "see" a basic form for each piece before you start?

  2. Right now I'm just learning how to make it work. On this piece I'm varying the width of the ribbon to see what happens. They are going to be basically the same shape for the moment; and as with the stones, sometimes what the material does determines where the piece goes.

  3. When you apply heat to some lighter materials (fibers, plastics, etc.)they twist and bend "at will.". Does sheet steel do that or do you have total control over the movement?
